Our Story

Bourbon & Fig is the fulfillment of a lifelong vision for Bassam and Jill Medawar, shaped by decades in hospitality and a deep commitment to their community.

Born in Lebanon, Bassam built a distinguished 40-year career in the hospitality industry before bringing his passion for personalized service to Northern Virginia. His extensive experience in private clubs instilled in him a philosophy that every guest deserves to be treated with warmth, recognition, and genuine care.

Jill brings a complementary vision, rooted in creativity and a keen eye for design. Her background in floral arrangement and event planning shaped the restaurant’s distinctive atmosphere—a thoughtful blend of timeless elegance and contemporary comfort. Every detail contributes to a memorable dining experience.

Together, they’ve created a dining destination that reflects their heritage and values. The name itself tells their story: Bourbon speaks to classic American tradition, while Fig honors Bassam’s Mediterranean roots. That fusion defines the spirit of the restaurant, from the menu that blends regional American cuisine with Mediterranean influences to the thoughtful interior that pairs antique treasures with modern elements.

After decades in Virginia, Bassam and Jill are proud to welcome their community to a place where meaningful connections take center stage. No screens, no rush. It’s a beautiful space where every meal is an unhurried celebration, and where guests are welcomed like family returning home.
